Are You Willing To Take One Simple Step To Propel Your Book On Its Way To Becoming a Bestseller?

A Good Friend Of Mine Asked Me The Best Way To Get A Ton Of FREE Publicity And More Sales For His New Book ...
Here's What I Told Him:

Dear Author,

You've packed the final draft of your manuscript in a large padded envelope and shipped it away for publication. Breathe a sigh of relief and pat yourself on the back. After months (or maybe years) of researching, writing, editing, and tweaking, your book is now ready to hit the shelves – or the Internet if you're producing a Kindle or e-book edition.

Your hard work is now done, or is it?

Years ago, when writing a book meant just that – writing it, you could happily sit back and let your publisher take care of the rest. When I wrote my first book, Focus on Freight  [ISBN 071102345X] for Ian Allan Publishing back in 1994, that's all I had to do.

Not so today!

These days there are still a lot of things to do before your book appears in print. Your “to-do” list may range from launching a social media platform, to getting endorsements, figuring out how you're going to earn an income during the book signing tour, and creating a book trailer.

A book trailer? What's that?

Put simply, a book trailer is a promotional video. Think of it as a commercial for your book. Book trailers are a fairly recent addition to the world of publishing, and are important to readers these days. People watch them when they appear on Amazon or YouTube, and for books they don’t know much about, the trailer often influences a decision to buy.

What can a book trailer do for your book?

It can:

  • Create intrigue and initial buzz

  • Arouse people's curiosity and get them interested in your book

  • Introduce readers to your book in a way that cannot be done traditionally

  • Let you target potential readers who would not usually visit a book shop

  • Provide a tool that fans can use to spread the word about your book via social media and networking sites like Facebook and Twitter

  • The video can go “viral” and get thousands upon thousands of potential readers interested in your book without you having to do any more work or spend any more money. How cool is that!

Plus, if your book is available online, you can direct potential buyers straight to the website – while their interest is still high.

What does a book trailer look like?

Here are a couple of book trailers I made recently:

How long should a book trailer be?

Some social media gurus say you should limit your book trailer to 30 seconds – like a TV commercial. They argue that most modern attention spans would not last longer than that. In some circumstances they may be right. Generally, though, up to about two minutes is fine – after that people's attention starts to wander.

How much does a book trailer cost?

If you (or your publisher) has a big budget, and want to get actors to act out the scenes from your book and throw in a lot of CGI effects and a celebrity voice over, you can probably get one done for $5,000 – $10,000 USD, and I can certainly advise you if you want to go down that route. Please contact me via the contact form and we can discuss this further.

On the other hand...
